Dear Pepper,
Tomorrow is your second birthday. I am not quite sure how it happened, but you are somehow one whole year older, and my gosh, what a year it has been.
You won’t remember but this year has been a monumental one, not only because of your own milestones and development but for the entire world. We are currently living through a pandemic and this past year you have been in ‘lockdown’ three times! You won’t have memories of why or how we muddled through, but I really hope you remember the love, laughter, and time we have all spent together during what has been a tough year for us all.
You have truly brought us so much light and love during the past year and watching you grow into a little girl has been a magical experience for me. You have taught me to always act with patience, care, kindness, and see the good in things that I never noticed before. Watching you explore your surroundings, take on new challenges with open arms, learn to walk and talk and overcome nervousness when lockdown made things hard, has been a greater gift than I could have imagined. And I really needed that last year.
You are turning into such a kind-hearted and cheeky little girl who loves her family so much, and because of that, I feel very proud. When we found out we were going to have you I always worried about how we would ensure you grew up to be a kind and caring person, who saw the good in everyone around her, but I needn’t have worried as you have learned that all on your own. You are even able to forgive me my mistakes, even when I don’t feel like forgiving myself. This last year has been tough, but we have cried together and laughed together and mostly we have grown together. For that, I am very thankful.
This year you also became a big sister and I can’t tell you how wonderful it has been to see you take on that role. I know it has been a weird time for you and you aren’t used to Mummy and Daddy having to take a little longer to do things or make you wait to play, but you have dealt with it all so extremely well and your sister loves you so much already. It’s lovely to see.
So, as you wake up on your second birthday little lady, know that we love you and are so incredibly proud of you. Let’s laugh, eat, dance, and play all day long because that’s what we do best. It won’t be the birthday we would have planned, but we will all be together and as this last year has taught us, that’s all that really matters.
We love you so much, our precious girl.
Mummy & Daddy
